Adaptive Fitness in Port Jefferson Station, NY

Fitness for All Abilities

Not every athlete needs the same workout. That's the point.

Fusion Adaptive Fitness provides individual and small-group fitness for children, teens and adults who may need a different approach to exercise.

We adapt the workout around the athlete's abilities, goals, experience and comfort level so they can build strength, confidence and a lasting fitness routine.

Private-pay and OPWDD Self-Direction families are welcome to contact us about available program and payment options.

Finding the Right Fitness Program Shouldn't Be This Hard

For some athletes, a traditional gym, large class or one-size-fits-all workout simply isn't the right fit.

Needs More Individual Attention

Some athletes do better with clearer instructions, more repetition, a different pace or one-on-one coaching.

Traditional Programs Haven't Worked

Sports, gyms or group classes may have felt too fast, too crowded, too rigid or simply not designed around the athlete.

Needs a Healthier Routine

Children and adults may need more opportunities to move, build strength and develop a consistent exercise routine.

You Want a Coach Who Can Adapt

The goal isn't to force the athlete into a standard workout. The training should adapt to the person.

Start with a conversation. Tell us about the athlete and we'll help determine which Fusion program may be the best place to begin.

Let's Find the Right Fit

Adaptive Fitness Programs

Different athletes need different ways to train. Fusion offers individual, small-group and striking-based fitness options that can be adjusted around the person.

Adaptive Personal Training

One athlete. One coach. A workout built around the individual.

Adaptive personal training allows us to adjust exercises, pacing, instruction and progression based on the athlete's goals and current abilities.

Sessions may work on strength, conditioning, balance, coordination, movement skills and building confidence in a fitness environment.

Adaptive Group Fitness

Get the energy and community of a group without expecting every athlete to train exactly the same way.

Our adaptive group fitness approach allows exercises and coaching to be modified so athletes can participate at an appropriate level.

Adaptive Boxing & Kickboxing

Real boxing and kickboxing fitness adapted to the athlete.

Training can include bag work, striking combinations, movement, coordination, conditioning and footwork with exercises adjusted for different experience levels and abilities.

No martial arts experience is required to start.

What Does Adaptive Fitness Mean?

Adaptive fitness does not mean lowering expectations or giving everyone the same modified workout.

It means starting with the athlete in front of us.

We can adjust the exercise, instruction, pacing, environment or level of support so the athlete has a better opportunity to participate and make progress.

Individualized Coaching

We can change how an exercise is taught, practiced or progressed based on the athlete.

Different Starting Points

Some athletes are completely new to exercise. Others already train and simply need a different coaching approach.

Progress at the Athlete's Pace

Progress may mean more strength, better coordination, improved conditioning, increased confidence or becoming more independent in the gym.

Real Fitness

Fusion Adaptive Fitness is a fitness program. We focus on exercise, coaching, movement and building sustainable fitness habits.

The workout adapts to the athlete, not the other way around.

Learn About Adaptive Fitness

Fitness for Children and Adults

There is no single type of adaptive athlete. Fusion works with children, teens and adults who may benefit from more individualized coaching, modified exercises or a more flexible fitness environment.

Kids & Teens

Help your child become more active, build confidence and develop a positive relationship with exercise.

Whether traditional sports have not been the right fit or your child simply needs more individualized coaching, we'll start by learning what helps them participate successfully.

Kids Adaptive Fitness

Adults

Adaptive fitness doesn't stop when someone ages out of children's programs.

Adults can work on strength, fitness, routine, confidence, independence and becoming more comfortable in a real gym environment.

Adult Adaptive Fitness

Autistic Athletes

Autistic children, teens and adults may benefit from differences in pacing, communication, transitions, routine or the training environment.

We focus on the athlete's individual needs rather than assuming everyone with the same diagnosis should train the same way.

Autism Fitness

Developmental Disabilities

Fusion works with athletes with a range of intellectual and developmental disabilities who may benefit from clearer coaching, more repetition, individualized modifications or a different pace.

Start with a conversation so we can determine whether our current programs and facility are the right fit.

Developmental Disability Fitness

Build Strength. Build Confidence. Build Independence.

Fitness is about more than completing a workout. Depending on the athlete and their goals, training may focus on:

Strength
Conditioning
Balance
Coordination
Movement Skills
Healthy Routine
Confidence
Independence

Progress looks different for every athlete.

For one person, progress may mean learning a new movement. For another, it may mean finishing a full workout, becoming more comfortable in a group, building a regular exercise routine or walking into the gym with greater independence.

We focus on meaningful progress for the person in front of us.

Start With the Athlete

1

Tell Us About the Athlete

Start by sharing their age, goals, fitness experience and anything you'd like us to know about communication, mobility, sensory preferences or support needs.

2

We'll Help Find the Right Starting Point

Depending on the athlete, that may be adaptive personal training, small-group fitness, adaptive boxing and kickboxing or another available option.

3

Start Training

The coach adjusts exercises, instruction and pacing around the athlete while keeping the focus on real fitness.

4

Build From There

As the athlete becomes stronger, more comfortable and more experienced, the training can progress with them.

Self-Direction

Using OPWDD Self-Direction?

Some families using OPWDD Self-Direction may be able to use approved funds for qualifying fitness memberships, classes or other fitness-related expenses.

Fusion Adaptive Fitness can provide program descriptions, pricing and other business information for your Support Broker or Fiscal Intermediary to review.

Funding depends on the participant's approved Self-Direction budget and the requirements of their Self-Direction team.

We do not determine OPWDD eligibility or guarantee that a particular service will be funded.

Working With Your FI

We can provide information your Fiscal Intermediary may need to review a fitness expense.

Working With Your Broker

Your Support Broker can help determine how fitness fits into the participant's approved Self-Direction budget.

Direct Payment or Reimbursement

Payment procedures vary by Fiscal Intermediary. Ask us about available options and we can provide the information your team needs.

A Real Fitness Environment With an Adaptive Approach

Fusion Adaptive Fitness isn't built around the idea that every person with a disability needs a separate world.

We believe more athletes can participate in real fitness when the coaching is flexible enough to meet them where they are.

Real Fitness

Our focus is exercise, coaching, movement and physical fitness.

Individual Adaptations

Exercises, pace and instruction can be modified around the athlete.

Children and Adults

Adaptive fitness should not disappear when someone becomes a teenager or adult.

Respectful Coaching

We focus on the athlete's abilities, goals and progress rather than defining them by a diagnosis.

Every athlete starts somewhere different. Our job is to help them build from there.
